I now work at the Teen Nursery at the Forest Grove High School ran by the YMCA. I really like my job and the fact that when school is not in I get to be home with the boys. We have 4 children we watch and 7 teen parents that we work with on a daily basis. I have fallen in love with all of them!!!

It took a long time for Isaac to warm up to me but we are best buds now...thank goodness!!!

Grandma came for a visit to clear out her shed a bit. On the last day of the visit we went to Cannon Beach and Hug Point. We had SST (Soup Salad and Toast) then played at the beach it was a super day!

I know it sounds so cliche but when I first met Doug there was chemistry...love at first sight? I think so. Here's the story as I remember it...the years may have over romanticized it for me, but hey it's a good story.

I had graduated Rick's the summer of 1991. Moved to Ogden UT to go to school. Got an apartment with some girl's that I found on the institute bulletin board. I decided to work for six months to get Utah residency. I worked at Wal-Mart in Layton. I got to know several people in my ward. Had a good time with my roommates and friends and became close friends with my home teacher, Kelly Knighton. Kelly and I chatted about everything, and were silly, and we gave each other advice about dating from the other's perspective. In the spring of 1992 Kelly told me his little brother was coming to visit. I really didn't think much about it, he was 2 years younger and getting ready to go on a mission. Kelly showed me a picture of him and his prom date, I thought he (Doug) was cute and his date wasn't. =)

Kelly brought his brother over I opened the door (not even sure if I said hi) and just stood there staring at this guy. I remember Kelly saying this is my little brother...didn't catch much of the rest of it...I remember noticing that Kelly's brother had a volleyball t-shirt on. Not sure how that conversation continued or ended... then I remember Kelly's brother coming to the door without Kelly, my roommate Liz was there and I was dying to show her the guy I was telling her about. I said Liz this is Kelly's brother??? Totally forgot his name. He said it was Doug. I don't remember him coming in that time. But the time I remember was they(Kelly and Doug) were coming "home teaching" (in a singles ward it's basically just flirting). I had just got home from work and I let them in, I heard "Doug" say something to Kelly about ojo's - all I remember was me staring at Doug and him staring at me. I remember trying to think what ojo's was from my Spanish class and I said isn't ojo's ears no wait it means...eyes...Doug was talking to Kelly about my eyes! Whoo Hoo! I really don't remember much of what happened after that- but I know -Doug spent all the time he was supposed to be visiting with his brother with me. We stayed up all night talking and talking. I quickly fell for him.

Eventually he went back to Oregon to work and to save money for his mission. He worked 2 jobs and played church basketball, he was very busy. We both knew he needed to serve his mission so we never really talked about our feelings for each other but I am pretty sure we both knew. He didn't ask me to wait and I didn't say I would, but I knew for sure, if I didn't marry Doug, I wanted to marry someone just like him.
I wrote to him a couple of times while he was on his mission. I asked Kelly every time I saw him if he had heard from Doug.

In October of 1994 I got a phone call from a guy. He sounded familiar, but I had no clue who it was. I kept talking hoping I would figure it out. I said, "So, what have you been up to?" He paused for a minute and said, "Oh, I just got back from Japan." I fell off my bed and I'm pretty sure I screamed. I was jumping up and down so excited to talk to him. He invited me to his homecoming in Oregon in a couple of weeks. I wanted to go so bad! So I worked on plans to go see him. My parents got tickets for the Bountiful Temple open house. So we went to the Open House then they drove me to the airport. I had never flown before, but I thought Doug was definitely worth it. It was kind of an awkward visit, he had just gotten off his mission and wasn't used to being around girls, and I had just broken up with a boyfriend that I dated most of the time he was on his mission. For some reason I invited him to have Thanksgiving dinner at my house, he accepted, and came out the following month to visit. The Thanksgiving visit was pivotal, I will have to tell you that story another time. But after Thanksgiving we visited each other every other month. I flew to Oregon in December, he visited Utah in January. We continued this until he moved to Ogden in May of 1995. We were married September 9, 1995 in the Bountiful Temple. Yes dreams do come true!

So the other day we were watching "Family Ties," and at the end it shows a picture of a dog with a Frisbee and Doug says EXCITEDLY with the announcer: "Sit Ubu, sit. Good dog. Woof." Dillon and I about died laughing. It was the funniest thing I have heard in a llllllooonnngg time! So when I was teasing him about saying it so excitedly he said it was because he was just thinking about playing with UBU before that came on! Funny. Funny. FUNNY!!! (Can you tell Doug REALLY wants a dog?)

I met Jackie Hall and Shannon Badger in Eugene 9th ward. We all had young children, play dates and girls night out, together. Jackie and Shannon have always been there for me even when we have lived miles apart. We were able to get all the mom's and kids together for a day at OMSI when Shannon and kids came to visit in August. I love them both so much. Here are some pictures of then and now.

Dill's 12th Birthday

Dillon Burke Knighton aka: Dilly Bar, Diddy, Diddy Bar, Silly Dilly, Dillo, Dill-eh-own, bowtie, pickle, Dill pickle and many more nicknames; turned 12 on the 20th of August and was ordained a deacon in the aaronic priesthood on August 21. We are so happy for the choice Dillon has made to continue progressing in the gospel. Dillon is very bright, enjoys school and has a natural sense of humor. He loves to cuddle and hug. Dillon loves TV, videos, video games and occasionally if I can get him away from the electronics he likes to read. We love you Dillon and so glad you are part of our Eternal Family! xoxoxoxox

Afternoon Swim Time

This summer I decided to buy a swim pass. I am so thankful I did. When the boys were bored or I needed to run errands I took them to the pool and they swam for a couple of hours. Next year I will have to be sure and remember to do that again.

Memorial Day @ Cannon Beach

After our hike with Roy, Javan, Dylan and Devin we decided to go to the beach. We ate at Mo's had a family style pot of yummy clam chowder. Then the boys decided they wanted to go in the water. It was a cold cloudy day, but that didn't stop the boys for playing in the ocean. The boys love to jump the waves and throw sand and Sean apparently likes to stick his head in freezing cold water. I am so thankful for my boys and Doug. We always have a great time together!

Hall's and Davis' 5-28-11

We met our friends the Hall's and Davis' at "Out of This World Pizza." None of us had ever been there before. They had lot's of slides and things for kids to play on, but our kids were a little too big for it. We had pizza and chatted, the kids played for a bit. Then we went over to Carl and Christine's new house. The kids played in their fun backyard while the adults played games. We always have so much fun when we all get together. Getting a decent group pictures with the Hall and Knighton kid's is impossible =) Soon the Davis' will have a child to add to the group, I'm sure he will fit right in!

Canoeing Hagg Lake

In June, Doug and the boys took canoes and kyak's out to Hagg Lake. Aunt Holly, Laura, Erik and their friends the Whittaker's came with them. Hunter learned to paddle a kyak. Dillon loved ramming the other canoes. Sean's favorite part was the races. Everyone had a great day. Except the part when Sister Whittaker accidently got hit in the face with a paddle during the water fight.

Last night we were at "out of this world pizza" with the Hall's and Davis'. I asked Hunter to get me a Coke. He brought me a Coke Zero. I said Hunter I wanted "coke" not "coke zero". He said, "there's not coke over there." It was a coca-cola machine. Lesson for Hunter: COCA-COLA and COKE are the same!

Gardening Doug's new passion

So for the last several nights Doug has been up all night planning our garden and how he would like to eventually see it. He has planted some vegetables this year and has been working on a compost system. I believe next project is to get pump working to well. He has been spending a lot of time out in the yard and it's looking great.

Band Concert

Last night was Hunter's advanced band concert. When we moved here in January, Hunter decided to sign up for advanced band since he has been in band the last couple of years. He told the teacher he wanted to do drums. He has never done drums before and as far as I know has never told the teacher he hasn't. He said he just asked the other kids around him. He is also taking guitar and doing great with guitar. He has taught himself piano. He has also played the trumpet, cello, and bass. We have not pushed him to do music it is something he chooses to do own his own. He is also teaching his brother's piano and guitar. Great job Hunter.

Music Class

Today was Dillon's music class concert. They had ALL the 5th graders do songs. Most classes sang at least one song and played instruments to another song. Dillon's class sang "Let it be" then he played the ukulele to "Let it Be". He did a great job. After Dillon was finished Doug and I left. When Dillon got home from school he informed me that it was very rude of us to get up and leave before the concert was over and ...we went out the wrong door...oops.

DOWN AND DERBY

Last night was the Pinewood Derby or as Sean kept calling it..."Down and Derby." This year was a little different than years before. We were making adjustments up to the last minute. Sean just wanted his car black. No other colors. He had a lot of fun. His car was in the top few, not sure what place but he definately wasn't last. He finally decided on a name for his car after the derby..."The Knighton Fury". I am so glad my boys have opportunities like this to make good memories.

Garage Sale

So yesterday we had our garage sale. We spent all day doing it and made a little over $100. We took everything else to Goodwill for donations. It is nice to have all the clutter gone, but we might consider just writing off the items than trying to sell them next time.

When Dillon got off the bus I was waiting for him. I asked how his Friday the 13th was. He gave me a pathetic look and said, " I don't want to talk about it." Later he told us that it was hot during the day and he smelled like tomato's. A kid called him "Chef Boyardee." He told the kid he didn't like italian. Luckily he has a great sense of humor.

So last night Dillon told me that it is "Hawaiian Day" at school but he does not want to dress up because it is Friday the 13th. I told him that Friday the 13th has nothing to do with him dressing up and he would be fine. This morning he dressed in shorts and went to school. I just got a voicemail from him asking me to bring him a new set of clothes. Apparently, someone's tomato juice spilled all over him. So Doug and I sent him a new set of clothes. We sent Hunter's Oscar the Grouch T-Shirt that says, "I wear this when I am grouchy." Doug just texted me and said, "He smells like Bob would." I was not sure what that meant. Then I realized he was talking about "Bob the Tomato" from Veggie Tales. Dillon is not one to let things go. I am pretty sure he is going to hold onto the superstition that BAD THINGS HAPPEN ON FRIDAY THE 13TH. I love that kid!

Garage Sale Saturday May 14, 2011. 2731 13th Place, Forest Grove, OR. Well it's time. Time to get rid of it all. Luckily we have moved a lot and have gotten rid of stuff as we went. We still have way more things then we have room for. Saturday is the day to purge. There are things we have held onto for far too long and I am hoping by letting go we will be freed. We shall see. It is hectic, but I am excited to get rid of it all.

Hunter Track

Hunter decided to do track this season. He came home from the first track practice and said he threw 80 feet and the coach was impressed that this was his first time throwing. Of course, we did not believe Hunter because he does have the tendancy to exaggerate...he averages about 85 feet and placed 3rd at his last meet. Great job Hunter!

OMSI with 5th Graders

Yesterday I was able to go to OMSI with Dillon's fifth grade class. We had a great time. I love going on field trips with the boys, but by the time I'm finished, I'm exhausted and have such a great appreciation for the teachers that handle these kids on a daily basis!

Great Friends

We have been blessed with so many wonderful people in our life! This weekend we were able to spend time with some of them. We needed to bring our stuff from our storage unit in Springfield to Forest Grove so we can have it closer and try to "downsize." We stayed with Tom and Jackie Hall and their family on Friday night. Saturday our friends from Springfield 3rd ward came and helped us load up our truck. Their help made a huge job seem easily. Dale, Rhett and Blake Ortmann, Mike Pendergrass, Jeff Parrack and his daughter, Paul Farrally and Jeremy Wright all were there to help when we needed it. We had lunch with the Hall's, Roy Gray and Lisa Gray and her kids. Hunter was able to hang out with Kambria Gray and some of her friends and was able to go to a stake dance that night. We stayed with Keith and Angie Mayol and their boys Saturday night and got to see Frank and Candy Canada and their kids. The Mayols and Canada's were our great friends and neighbors at Brentwood Estates, our boys all loved to play together. Then we were blessed with the opportunity to attend Hailey Durfee's mission homecoming at Springfield 3rd ward -where we saw even more great friends. Hailey is one of our favorite people in the whole world and you could definately see she loved her mission and those she served and that she has grown into an even more amazing daughter of God. These people have all touched our hears in their individual ways. It was such a fun time, and reminds me how important friends are in this life. We are truly blessed.

Hunter's Patriarchal Blessing

We recently had a very special day. We went to Patriarch Christensen's house and Hunter received his Patriarchal Blessing. It was amazing to hear the love of Heavenly Father for him and to think about the possibilities of his future. Hunter is a great kid and is turning into a handsome young man.

Big Changes!!!!

Well Hunter did do first term at Willametter Leadership Academy and learned some great skills. He was on the honor roll the whole time we were there. Sadly we moved and Hunter had to leave the school. We are now in Forest Grove, Oregon. (Doug's hometown.) We were very sad when we had to close the Regional Sports Center but are starting a new chapter in our life. The boys have adjusted to new schools and new friends remarkably well. We are still trying to find work for one or both of us. Right now Doug is working for Stream but it is definately not a living wage. He does like that he get s to play the X Box a lot though. We love our ward and feel very welcomed here. We feel this is where we need to be, so we are patiently waiting to know what we need to do. Luckily, we do have our faith which helps us get through such tough times. We are very blessed!!! Maybe I will do better at updating my blog...but don't count on it =)

Ramona Falls Hike

"Grandpa" Roy takes the kids on a hike most Saturdays throughout the summer. He did it last year and has done it again this year. This year Doug has gone on the hikes and I have gone on a couple. The kids keep asking "mom why do you go on the big hikes?" My answer...I have no clue, but as I am walking and wanting to give up I think...people really do this for fun?? It was hot and dry on the first part of our hike and I just wanted to quit...but I knew if I quit the kids would want to too. So I kept walking and walking. I tried to think about the pioneers and that they had to do this day in and day out and in all conditions of weather. The waterfalls were beautiful it was nice to have lunch and rest by the falls. The walk back was much more enjoyable....if you go on the Ramona Falls just go in and out the same way...go in clockwise and come out the same way the other side of the loop is not as pretty and is more up hill.. it did help me to appreciate the rest of the hike though.

According to some friends of ours: the kids going on the pioneer treck where divided into animal groups-each group was supposed to make the animal sound so other group members could find where they belonged. Hunter starts singing loudly and dancing shaking hips chika chicka wow wow...evidently he's in the chicken group. I can't wait to hear other stories from those in attendance of things my child does when parents are not around!!!

We were able to visit Temple Square this trip. We had a delicious lunch at the Lion House, watched the movie in the Joseph Smith building about the Prophet Joseph Smith and toured the Church History Muesem. I don't think I had ever been there before. Also we went and saw the beautiful Christus-always my favorite! I forget that my kids didn't grow up there like I did and this is all very new to them. We will definately have to schedule more time for Temple Square next vacation there is just so much to see and do there!!!

Vacation 07-10

Well we just got back from a great family vacation last week. Our first week back to work was ok, but we would all rather be on vacation!!!

We had a great time with Tammy and Chad's Family and the Badger's in Utah, and a great time with Jan's family in Wyo. Grandma Knighton caravaned out with us...we love it when she does that.

We did lots of four wheeler riding, gun shooting and fireworks. Devin received the Aaronic Priesthood which was a special time to be there. We also spent the day at 7 peaks water park and a day at Temple Square.

We have really let our priorities get out of wack and are trying to really focus on the important things...like time with family.

Dillon and Sean had Cub Scout day camp this week and Hunter will have a pioneer treck in a couple of weeks. Doug and the boys are hiking with Roy today at Mount Fuji ( Oregon =) ) We have tons of pictures from our trip...I will try to find some of my favorite ones to post...of course they are all on facebook too. Hopefully I will make blogging a little more of a priority than it has been but no promises.

Wow it's been a year since I've blogged last. Lots has happened. I will have to go through pictures and see what I can find.
Doug is still at Regional. I worked for Royal Caribbean for about 6 months and quit. I am back at Regional now. Hunter is about to finish 7th grade. Dillon is finishing up 4th grade. Sean is in 2nd grade. Sean go baptized last weekend we had a great time with family and friends. I will see if I can remember how to download pics and try to be more faithful in updating our blog!!!!!

Almost May

Well it's almost May. Time just goes by so quickly. We have been busy, busy and more busy.

Doug's job at the Sport's Center keeps him very busy and he spends a lot of time there. Volleyball season just ended, he had tournaments every weekend from January to April and now he is preparing for summer sports camp for the kids.
He is also Assistant Scout Leader for the Deacons Quorum. He has been on a winter camp out and a rafting trip with the scouts. Scouts gives him an opportunity to get out of the office for a while. He just went fishing with a client that holds professional wrestling tournaments at the sports center. They had a great time and Doug came home with an 18 pound salmon...it was delicious. Pictures will be added at a later time.

Janet is helping out at the sports center in May and is adjusting to having a job. She teaches the 16 year old Sunday School class and loves being with the youth. She has joined a food storage group. She has great friends she gets together with and enjoys the time away when she can take it.

Hunter was ordained a Deacon in February and joined boy scouts. He also attended a baptism for the dead and passed the sacrament within a couple of weeks together. He is adjusting to life in middle school and trying to get good grades. He is learning about responsibility and accountability. He has been working out with Roy and Roy has been helping him with his school work.

Dillon recently had his pinewood derby and had a blast watching his car race against the others. He enjoys cub scouts and is almost finished with his Bear. His birthday is not until August but we want to make sure he has all of his requirements finished before school gets out.

Sean is now 7...what happened to my little baby? He is reading and learning coins and counting money and adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers. He loves sports and sports camp and looks forward to no school days so he can go to the sports center.

Mom and her friends took the kids to OMSI for the day a few weeks ago we had a blast. We also went downtown Portland as a family and played during spring break. The boys got to stay with Grandma K. while mom went to Wyoming for Aunt Dida's baby shower. Our family also got to go to a Trailblazer game and sit in the suites. It was a "suite" time.

Kyle and Lisa took mom and dad to see Wicked and the kids stayed with our friend Angie. It was a great time for all of us.

For Thanksgiving we had turkey dinner at home with just and the boys. After dinner Doug and the boys went and played at the sports center...I wasn't feeling well so I stayed home. Saturday we took the boys to Alton Baker Park and took some pictures. It was a lot of fun, such crazy kids!!!

BRANDED A WOLF

In September Dillon achieved his wolf in cub scouts. He is very excited to be a bear!!! Dillon has recently became very responsible. He sets his clothes out at night for the morning, makes his bed, and does his homework first thing when he gets home...without being reminded. What a great kid!!!

Silly Dilly: The other day Sean had holes in his pants and I said Sean you look like an orphan...Dillon quickly replies..."ya an orphan with a wii remote in his hand!!!" I don't know if Dillon realizes what he says, but he always makes me laugh!

HALLOWEEN FUN

As tradition we took the boys to Thistledown Farm to get pumpkins. We had a blast in the corn maze, going on a hay ride and picking out our pumpkins. No halloween is complete without a trip to the pumpkin patch.

The boys were also able to go to Grandma K. 's for Halloween. They had a blast as usual!!! They got to make ghost candies, play with Erik and Laura, and go trick or treating downtown Forest Grove. Mom and dad had quiet time while they were gone!!! Thanks grandma;)

October 17th and 18th was Time Out For Women in Portland. It was a great time, and it was fun to get away and just be with the girls. A bunch of us stayed in La Quinta near the Convention Center. I shared a room with Lisa and Laschelle. We played games in the breakfast room, and just had fun. Emily Watts was one of the speakers who I LOVE. I've read her book "Take 2 Chocolates and Call Me in the Morning" and just felt so good about myself after reading and laughing. She was walking by us and we asked if we could get a picture with her...she was as adorable as she writes and speaks, and I know if we were in the same ward would be great friends;)

Mary Ellen Edumunds spoke and she was HILARIOUS...I wish she could have spoke more throughout the weekend. Her sense of humor is the best!!! She totally says what we wish we would think of saying at a moment...and usually it's not completely appropriate...I LOVE HER!!!

Cheiko Okasaki also spoked. I loved her. She is very intelligent articulate and I just felt the spirit so strong when she spoke. I've read lots of her books and love them all. I think she is in her 80's and she is vibrant!!!

It was a great weekend!!! It was so fun to get to spend time with friends I haven't seen in almost 10 years.

Autumn

Wow, I can't believe it is almost October!!! Time flys when you are having fun. The Knighton's have been doing great. We are just getting back into the routine of being in school;)
Doug has started teaching seminary and is still a little apprehensive about it- I am sure he is doing great! I always enjoy his classes. His knee is progressing very well. The physical therapist has warned him that his knee is at it's absolute weakest point so he MUST be very careful for the next few weeks. Work is very busy for Doug and he loves it. Even though Doug is so busy with work and church, he still finds time to be with his family and help around the house...I LOVE THAT!!!

I am glad to get back into routines. I have been working out with some of the mom's that live here at the apartment complex. They are a great support to me. I've also joined a friendly weight loss competition with some other friends. We like to tease each other a little, but we also try to support each other too. I have been making arrangements with some of my friends, that I knew when we lived here before, and some of my new friends to go to Time out For Women in Portland. I am very excited. I have heard great things about time out for women. We are all, staying at the same hotel, and have reserved the conference room to play games. It should be a wonderful get away weekend.

Hunter is now in Middle School. I have calmed down a little bit, but it still is in the back of my mind. I remember how I was in middle school, and I so don't want him to be that way;) Hunter is learning the trumpet this year and playing flag football. Between music, sports and scouts he is very busy...we keep reminding him he is a STUEDENT Athlete....studies come first. He seems to be doing well...except he can't make it to math on time...which is in the middle of the day?

Dillon is doing well in school. He is learning to be more responsible. When he comes home from school he sits at the table and does his homework and then reads. It's so nice not to have to remind him. He is still trying to figure out how to turn homework in in a timely matter, but I am sure that it will come. This pack meeting he will become a Bear !!! He loves cub scouts and likes to have things to keep him busy. We like to have him away from the tv and video games for a while;)

Sean is in 1st grade. I think he is having the hardest time adjusting. Or maybe mom thinks he is, because she is? The first couple of weeks he would come home so irritable and exhausted. He said 1st grade is a lot longer than kindergarden;) His teacher called me the first week to see if he has problems listening and following directions. I told her no he usually does not have a problem with that. I haven't heard back from her, so I am hoping he is listening better;) There are 3 boys that are Sean's age that live close by us, so Sean loves to play with them...for a little while, then he goes and plays with the big kids. I guess because he is used to playing with his brothers he thinks he is a big kid.

The leaves are turning colors and it's getting colder. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. (Especially in Oregon) There are so many trees and so many colors that appear...I love it!
I am just trying to soak up all the sun I can before it disappears for MONTHS.

I want to ride the bus....

Today was a very sad day for me...ALL my boys chose to ride the bus rather than have mom and dad take them to the first day of school.

It was Hunter's first day of Middle School and he wanted to ride the bus. Sean wants to do whatever Hunter does, and Dillon decided to get on the bus, rather than to wait for Hunter's bus to leave, and then me take him to school, he was very excited to get to school.

When the last boy was on the bus, I just kind of sighed and looked at Doug, my little boys aren't so little any more, and don't need mom as much... I ALWAYS take them to school on the first day of school...but, not this year:(

I am very glad, they are all secure enough to go to school on the first day on their own. They are great kids, and the good part....they were all excited to tell mom and dad about the first day of school, when they got home;)

Spoiled, Rotten, Bratts

It is occurring to us that our children could possibly be spoiled, rotten, bratts. I know for most of you this is nothing new, but it is actually starting to sink in....and we are concerned.

Our children went to sports camp, most days this summer. They get to play in a game room with a 65" tv, wii, playstation 3 and guaitar hero...not to mention awesome surround sound for movies like Transformers. They can shoot hoops or roller blade, do gymnastics or rock climbing pretty much anytime they want and do any sports they want. They also get to go boating/tubing on a regular basis. They have gone camping and even got to stay at a beach house. They have had a great summer. Too bad for them, (and mom and dad,) the fun's over it's time to go back to school.

Our home teacher and friend Rob Henderson, is an awesome home teacher,we hope they never change his route. Rob and Michael Pendergrass came over the night before Doug's surgery to give him a blessing. Rob offered many times to be of help if we needed him during Doug's surgery/recovery. The day after surgery I had to call him to see if he could go to the lake with the boys. I did not feel I could leave Doug even for a few hours after he just had surgery and was so drugged up. (Roy wanted to take Dillon out on the boat for his birthday.) Rob willingly took our boys and his 2 small children to the lake. Brave? or a little insane? We are not sure!

What a home teacher!!!! I hope he had a little fun;)

Well this is my mandated update on my knee surgery...

I have had a lot of pain in my lower leg, and my flexion and extension has been slow to improve. They say that after a week, you should be able to bend you knee to full extension and then to 90 degrees. I am not quite to either one of those right now with week one over tomorrow.

My sexy stockings are called TED stockings. Those that are diabetic will recognize them as they are use to prevent swelling of the legs. Basically the are industrial strength pantyhose. They have you wear them on both legs for about 1 week, with the surgical bandages coming off after two days. No splint or brace is recommended. There is a well known phase in health sciences, "motion is lotion". While this is usual in relation to the synovial fluid in ball and socket type joints, it also applies well to injury recovery. I guess John Wayne wasn't so far off. Not scientific, but not far off. The science of when to do it is quite important.

I have my second PT appointment tomorrow and I am supposed to have achieved those goals. He may make me meet them tomorrow. I am not looking forward to that.

After about 2 weeks the new ligament, formally a tendon, gets to its weakest stages for about another 4-6 weeks. This is when the ACL is most commonly reinjured and it all starts again. I am certainly not wanting to start all over at this point. After the 8Th week the new ligament, is supposed to be strong enough to take on more complex motions like cutting in sports at a very light level. After 12 weeks most normal activities can resume. However, after discovery my knack for rowing, I am probably going to have to wait longer to resume training again. About 6 months before full scale workouts. All in all it has been a good experience that I wish to never repeat.

4th of July

We had a great Fourth of July. It was pretty low key and fun. We all slept in and then everyone cleaned the house. We took the boys to the sports center, they had the whole place to themselves since it was closed. Doug invited Ron Jackson and his son Ethan to come play too. The boys played, the wii, then the dad's played guitar hero. While the dad's were entertaining themselves, the kids went to the lobby and played unlimited arcade games. They have a game similar to Dance Dance Revolution and 2 race cars that you drive. The boys also played air hockey, and ping pong. Then they went back to the gameroom and played Playstation 3. It was a blast.

Later that evening we went to a BBQ at the Jackson's. They invited several people from our ward that we really haven't had the opportunity to get to know. It was really fun to get to know other people in our ward, we just usually hang out with the same people.

A friend or ours (who is like us-not from Springfield) sometimes calls Springfield-"Springtucky." For those of you who are not familiar with Springfield, a lot of the town, is run down and has a lot of low income people. Well last night we were in the heart of "Springtucky" and the Jackson's neighbors put on a firework show that would make most small town USA firework show's blush. It was great.

I was amazed at the amount of fireworks they had...and they were the good ones-like in Wyoming, not the OR fireworks, that can only be 6 ft high. I am not sure how many fireworks they lit, but there was a huge stack of boxes they lit and people were still bringing more out when we left at 11:30.

The Jackson's also invited 2 sets of Elder's to the BBQ. It was kind of awkward to be on our corner with the elder's and everyone chit chatting and then look across the street to see the people, jamming to their RAP and drinking beer...and whatever else...the Elder's finally decided to move their car since it was getting darker and the music was getting louder and the girls came with less and less clothes. They moved it up the street away from all the action- probably a good idea!!!

The firework show was great, and it was fun to watch drunk people lighting fireworks and catching themselves on fire and not knowing it!!!!

It makes me happy to have my toes painted. I see them- I smile!!! Fortunately for me my sweetheart loves me enough to paint my toes on a regular basis!!! I try various colors from the lightest pink, to cotton candy, to coral, but my absolute favorite is....OPI-I'M NOT REALLY A WAITRESS. It's a color probably found on most ladies of the evening who say they are a waitress....I just love it. I don't wear jewlery of tons of make up but, I love PAINTED TOES!!!

Oly Trials races

Ok so I didn’t watch the 500m (?) that must be those special meets that Jan goes to :) I was able to watch the men’s 800m, Women’s Javelin finals, Women’s LJ Finals, Women’s and Men’s 800m semis, Men’s 400, and some other stuff I forget. We had seats that we were about 20 rows up and 10m from the finish line.

The Men’s 800m was AWESOME. There were 3 U of O athletes that had various stories behind them. One of the kids (very short looking), yes I say kids cause they are 10 years my junior, had placed in the NCAA T&F finals, the other a long lanky kid had never played sports except for in college, and the other guy was a guy you would think of getting high with rather than him running a 800m. One of the athletes had the fastest time of the year also. It was a great setting for a great race.

The first lap went as expected with no significant surprises. On the backstretch everybody started to bunch up. Which if you have seen a track meet you know is not the norm. Usually the pack starts to get left behind and only a few simple lead changes happen. With 200m to go all three Oregon athletes had come from the back of the pack essentially and gotten to mid pack. The shot kid who had placed in the NCAA finals started making a huge push using the curve of the track to sling him out to lane 3 and move up to even with the leader. The lanky kid had also done the same and was right behind him. The "hippie runner" was stuck on the inside in about 4th place and it looked like he was going to stay boxed in.

The first kid took off like a shot and left the pack behind. With about 50m left he had about a 10m lead already. The lanky kid was about 3rd at this point and striding very well. With about 10m to go the short kid had about a 15m lead and the lanky kid had moved into 2nd. The hippie runner was still boxed in for 3rd/4th. The short kid easily took first, and the lanky kid took second.

With only about two strides left the hippie runner leans forward and gets off balance. The guy running next to him starts to fall also but instead of falling forward he fell backwards and the hippie runner took 3rd! It was such a well-run race. I never thought I could enjoy a Duck winning anything!

The decathalon final event (5000m) was also run tonight and the guy who won the decathalon (Clay) broke the Oly trials record for overall points. It was a fun evening! Except for paying $3 for a crappy hotdog. It was fun to watch all the people working the trials that people don't pay attention to. I am sure I will need to talk to some of the coordinators as we get ready for the 2010 Senior Pan Am Games.

I also was sitting next to Ernie Kent (U of O Basketball Coach and his wife, very nice guy). He was talking about recruits with someone most of the time.

Olympic Trials

Tonight Doug was invited to go with the Gray's to the Track and Field Olympic Finals. Since I know nothing about this, I really can't tell you what he's watching. Something like the 500 and the 200. (Sorry Stacy!) I will have Doug give you all the highlights.

It is fun to see all the hoopla around about the Olympics. It reminds me when the Olympic's were in UT. We lived in Evanston when the Olympics were in SLC. Doug was able to be a securtiy guard for the Today show, in Park City, and escorted Katie Curric to her room to get her berret!!! (wink, wink)

I am glad he has the opportunity to go to the finals. He loves to go to sporting events. I am also glad I did not have to go with him:) I don't really know much about track and field, and I have a short attention span. Besides, runners are too thin! At least at other sporting events I have something to look at, since I don't know what's going on;)

Doug met with the surgeon Friday. Surgery is not scheduled. Doug does not have enough range of motion...so it is time for Physical Therapy. He will check back in a few weeks.

Well the MRI showed Doug has blown his ACL and torn his miniscus?? I have no idea how to spell that... Looks like Doug will probably go in for surgery on July 3rd. We probably won't be doing anything fun for the fourth, but at least Doug will have an extra day to recover.

Lots of Fun Camping

The ward campout was Friday night to Saturday afternoon. THE HEATHENS aka Saturday Night Warriors-convinced the activity's committee- The Blairs to stay another night with us...and unfortunately miss church.

Geri, the woman constantly on a diet decided to make ricekrispie sandwiches with chocolate in the middle. SOUNDS GOOD GERI!!!

Sean followed Kevin Blair around all weekend. Kevin was great with him!!!

Last year we saw a bunch of kids sandboarding-so I wanted to make sure we rented some this year. Hunter has snowboarded before so he picked sandboarding up very quickly. I rented sleds for Dillon and Sean. The boys had a blast at the dunes.

Dillon could not resist the water. All of his clothes even the warm ones were wet the very first day.

Doug had a great time despite his injured knee. But I don't think this picture shows that to well;)

There were about seven families that stayed over Saturday night. When you have a ward with only a hundred active people...it makes a BIG difference in attendance. Saturday afternoon it was raining so we put up a couple of awnings and played games. We all had fun. A racoon came to visit us, and scared me to death when it hissed....of course everyone was going around hissing and scaring each other all night. It was so fun. The Henderson's, The Ortmann's The Dilg's, The Blairs, The Youngers, The Ruhnow's and The Knighton's all stayed for Saturday night into Sunday it was a blast. We want to go camping again soon. But depending on how Doug's knee surgery goes-we may or may not be able to do it for a while.

WARD CAMPOUT and DUTCH OVEN FOOD!!!!

This weekend was our ward campout. We went to the coast at Honeyman beach. We had a great time. Doug was able to leave early on Friday we drove down and set up. Sarah cooked for us this weekend and it was all delicious. Thanks Sarah. She made tri-tip and twice baked potatoes, salad and rolls for dinner on Friday night. The ward provided breakfast Saturday morning. Then we had shredded bbq chicken sandwiches and potato salad, with chips for lunch. Saturday night was yummy lasagna, and Sunday was breakfast burritos. Doug and I have decided Sarah can be our chef on all the campouts;)

Seth is a pain in the neck. I tried all weekend to get a good picture of him...all he would do is glare. Then Erin Ortmann came and took their picture and he posed for her and she took a great picture....

Memorial Day Boat Trip

Father Son Campout

As a mom of 3 boys- I must say that the Father Son Campout is one of my favorite times of the year!! Doug and the boys left Friday afternoon and came back Saturday afternoon.

I could tell they had a blast by how filthy their clothes were.

I puttered around the house and read some more!!!

What more can a mom ask for?

BLOWN KNEE

Week 2 of injured knee. Still no definate answer as to what damage is done but we think at least an ACL tear. Doug had his MRI Wed. We have a Dr. appointment next Wed. and after that we will probably meet with the surgeon. Doug has a hard time taking it easy and being disabled. I am "mothering" him or as he likes to say "smothering" him....Today was the last day of school. I think it will be a lonnnnnnnnng summer for Doug!!

HI EVERYONE-
SO SORRY I HAVEN'T UPDATED OUR BLOG FOREVER. OUR CAMERA DIED AT THE FIRST OF THE YEAR PLUS I WAS CALLED AS A COUNSELOR IN YOUNG WOMEN'S SO I'VE BEEN A LITTLE BUSY SINCE CHRISTMAS. I WILL TRY TO BE MORE ON THE BALL...BUT IF I'M NOT-I'M SURE THAT WON'T BE A SURPRISE TO ANY OF YOU!!!

MAY HAS BEEN AN EXTREMELY BUSY MONTH.

AT THE END OF APR AND THE FIRST PART OF MAY-DOUG AND HUNTER WERE ABLE TO GO ON A 5 DAY RAFTING TRIP. THEY HAD A SUPER TIME. I HAVE YET TO SEE PICTURES THOUGH. WHILE THE OLDER BOYS WERE GONE, DILLON, SEAN AND I WENT TO ROARING RAPIDS PIZZA AND A CARNIVAL. WE PARTIED AS MUCH AS WE COULD.

DOUG AND I WERE ALSO ABLE TO ATTEND A FUNDRAISER AUCTION WHICH WAS VERY FUN. IT WAS BLACK-TIE SO IT WAS NICE TO DRESS UP AND GET OUT. OUR PICTURES ALL TURNED OUT HORRIBLE....BUT WE HAD A GREAT TIME.

A COUPLE OF SATURDAYS WE WENT TO SOME MEMBERS IN OUR WARDS HOME AND DID SERVICE PROJECTS. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN. I THINK THE KIDS REALLY ENJOYED IT.

HUNTER HAD HIS FIRST CAMPOUT AS A BOYSCOUT. HE HAD A SUPER TIME. OF COURSE MOM WAS KIND OF WORRIED, I DON'T USUALLY WORRY IF HE'S WITH HIS DAD BUT IT WAS HARD FOR ME TO LET SOMEONE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR HIM...IN THE WILDERNESS.

HUNTER HAS GONE TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL A COUPLE OF TIMES TO FAMILIARIZE HIM WITH THE SCHOOL. I AM ALSO NOT ENJOYING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL IDEA. I REMEBER ALL THE CRAZY THINGS I LEARNED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL...I JUST WISH I COULD KEEP HIM HIDDEN TIL IT'S TIME FOR HIS MISSION. HE IS EXCITED SO I GUESS MOM NEEDS TO BACK OFF A LITTLE...,.I'M ONLY BACKING OFF A TINY BIT THOUGH;)

DILLON STILL LOVES TO DO ARTWORK. HE ESPECIALLY LIKES TO DO THE PAINT ON THE COMPUTER. HE IS REALLY IMPROVING. I THINK WE WILL SIGN HIM UP FOR SOME BASIC ART CLASSES IN THE FALL.

SEAN IS DOING GREAT. HE HAS ABOUT FOUR FRIENDS THAT RIDE THE BUS WITH HIM TO SCHOOL AND THEY ALL PLAY TOGETHER. IT HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD FOR HIM TO GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN TO SOCIALIZE MORE.

WELL THAT IS A BIT OF AN UPDATE FOR NOW.

Grandma came down for another visit. This time the boys and grandma made gingerbread houses and Christmas candy. The kids loved hammering the candy canes into bits and making candy. What a fun way to celebrate the holidays.

CUB SCOUTS

The boys have been doing great in Cub Scouts. Dillon is a wolf and enjoys going to Cub Scouts each week. Dillon got to carry the American flag for this pack meeting (he just needs to learn which hand to salute with...so cute!!)

Hunter is a Webelo and is working very hard to finish his Webelo and Arrow of Light before he moves up to 11 year old scouts. I have really enjoyed working in Cub Scouts but I'm also excited to be released and start my new calling:)

Dida and Jake wanted to have a small private wedding. Dida's sisters found out and all the "private" went out the window. It was a beautiful wedding. Above is a pictue of Dida and Savanna. I don't have a picture of the couple to post yet!! (hint dida)

Pumpkin Patch

Doug and I were able to go to the pumpkin patch with Sean's class. It was fun. Luckily, it quit raining long enough for us to have a good time picking out our pumpkins.

PRIMARY PROGRAM

Our Primary Program was on October 13th. It was wonderful. I think it was the best primary program I have seen. It was very organized. The boys all had matching ties and the girls had matching bows. We have a small primary so the children all had several parts. Dillon did a talk about Family Home Evening, he did a SUPER job. The music was done very nicely, they sang several rounds, all the kids seemed to know their parts.

Grandma Knighton was there too!!!! What a great day!!!

Grandma Knighton Comes for a Visit

Grandma Knighton came down to visit and watch the boys so Doug and Jan could go to the Roller Derby...(Roller Derby details to follow, they may need their own blog;)

Grandma brought some fun halloween activities and stayed for the boys primary program. We always love when grandma comes. Grandma always takes the time to do stuff we would like to do, but never find the time to. Grandparents are the best!!!!

Well let's see. What have I been up to??? I read a book all day Saturday--that was wonderful. I am going to start as the Assistant Manager job here at the apartment we live at. I will mostly check on the assistant manager's and make sure all the maintenance is being done. I will work a couple of hours on Saturday's and I probably will work a couple hours a day when Sean is in school, it's primarily supervisory, so I love that.
My first Relief Society lesson was the law of chastity...which was a nightmare....I'm so glad that is over. I have cub scouts on Tuesday's, and I help with the enrcihment committee. Jackie and I did freezer meals a couple of weeks ago, which was SO nice. I love having meals prepared, that I can just defrost and make. My house is still as messy as ever. I definately won't win the Good Housekeeping award. Life is great though....busy but great!!

Director Doug

Doug loves his job at Regional Sports Center. He feels like he's not just troubleshooting anymore and is able to actually work on programming and getting new things going at the sports center. Doug is the Sunday School President, I guess I've joked too much about Sunday School President not being a real calling. He's going to be doing teacher inservice...or I don't know what it's called now, but training people on teaching...it's still a pretty easy calling....oh ya he get's to ring the bell too :)

Whistlin' Dixie

So Hunter has been whistling lately....it's driving me crazy. There is NO tune it's just noise...:) His teacher told him he pictured him swinging his arms leading the band....must be getting on his nerves too!!! Hunter has a male teacher for the first time....and loves it. He is doing great at school. After last year, it is so nice to see him excited to learn again.

Chicken Little Soup

So I just have to tell you the cutest thing. I asked Sean what he wanted for lunch, he said "Chicken Little Soup." It was so cute I had to keep asking him, to make sure that was what he was saying. He likes school, but misses sports camp a great deal. His teacher said he talks a little bit too much, but she just reminds him and he behaves. He loves to ride the bus and loves going to "big kid school" with his brothers.

He is going through this phase where I have to be in the same room with him when he's home...it's driving me crazy. If I leave the room for one minute, he's like mom, I want you in here....I can't do anything!!! Not that I really want to anyway :)

Open House

Last week or was it 2 weeks ago?? Not sure. Been too busy to keep track. Dillon's teacher informed us, that it was "nice" to meet us. Dillon told her he was very happy that a note that was sent home was in both english and spanish....because his parents only spoke...SPANISH. The truly sad thing is I just laughed, because , well I have been known to tell white lies such as this....SO MUCH FOR THE BAPTISM.....

Oh ya, speaking of the baptism. When Dillon met with the Bishop for his baptism interview, the Bishop said jokingly....Dillon is there something you need to tell me??? Dillon thought about it for a while, while his dad and I were talking to the Bishop. Then Dillon asked if he could speak to the Bishop alone. Doug and I left, when we came back in the bishop said it was a GREAT talk. A while later I thought maybe I should ask Dillon what he talked to the Bishop about. He said I told the Bishop that sometimes you swear mom, and so do I.....just gotta love those kids. I'd like to say it's helped my language, but when I think of this story it makes me want to curse under my breath!!!!

12th Anniversary!!!

Last weekend was our 12th anniversary. We went to Portland and stayed over Friday and Saturaday night. It was a great weekend. It was so nice for Doug and I to have time on our own. Seth and Sarah stayed at the same hotel, so we got together for dinner, a temple trip and some shopping.

Christine watched the boys while we were gone. They had a great time. They went to a Springfield High football game and saw "Surf's Up."

I can't believe it's been 12 years. It seems like I've known Doug forever, but it seems like just yesterday I met him and knew he was the guy I wanted to marry. I remember when we were first married and we saw couples with kids our kids age, or couples that had been married TWELVE YEARS....they seemed so OLD :) It's been a great 12 years and we are looking forward to many happy years together. I am so thankful for Doug, I tell him often he is the man of my dreams. It is still true today.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Well, today was the first day of school. The kids are very enthusiastic about a new school, new teachers and friends. (We will see what they think in a couple of weeks.) Sean said he wouldn't run at school....I said that's good. He said, "I'll be good so I won't have to run"....think he spent too much time at sports camp this summer??

DILLON'S BAPTISM

Dillon's baptism was wonderful. It was great to have family and friends around for the day. It was so nice of everyone to travel to help us celebrate this special occasion. Papa Kim and Grandma Trudy drove from Wyoming. Dida flew in Saturday from Wyoming and drove back with Papa and Grandma. Chad, Tammy, Jake, Devin, Josie, Derek, and Jence drove out from Utah. Grandma K., was nice enough to pick Dida up at the airport in Portland and bring her down. Paul, Holly, Grant, Erik, and Laura all came from Portland. We also had friends here in Springfield come and play with us go out to dinner and attend the baptism. It was wonderful!!!!!!!

DILLON'S BIRTHDAY

For Dillon's 8th birthday we went rock climbing at the Regional Sports Center. Our good friends Tom and Jackie Hall and their kids; Ryan, Lizzie, Andrew, and Zachary came and celebrated with us. We had pizza, cake and ice cream and a great time climbing the rock wall. I took pictures with a disposable camera without a flash, so none of them turned out:( I have a NEW camera now.

Our Vacation was great!!!

Here are some highlights:

The boys were able to play with cousins Jake, Devin, Josie, Derek, and Jence.

Doug and Jan were able to have lunch with Courtney and catch up after all these years. It was SO much fun...(love ya CC.)

Attended a great blessing of Jence.

Doug ran into Peter Wynia in SLC airport, flew same flight to Portland they were able to catch up on the flight... (we love you too Wynia's!!!)

Jan was able to have lunch with our good friends Peggy and Dave Molnar(who we also love)

Got to see Grandpa Kim and Dida and Aunt Nancy. (Love you 3)

Dida, mom and the boys went to Bear Lake.

Jan got to get her toes, fingers and hair done....(love you too AMY)

Boys went 4-wheeling with Papa.

Went to Lehi Pool with cousins and had a BLAST!!!

Brought Jake, Dev, and Josie back from UT....(a 15 hour ride with 6 kids, grandma and me...;)

BACK FROM VACATION

We are back from our vacation to Utah and Wyoming. We had a great time. We were able to see lots of friends and family, and do tons of fun stuff. I will be updating the blogs in the next few days. Our car window was broken out the other day and we have not been able to determine if our camera was in the car or if we left the camera somewhere in Wyoming, Utah, Portland or if it's here in Springfield and we haven't found it yet!!
